Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) can only be found in four national parks of the Virunga Mountains in central Africa. Although strong and powerful, gorillas are generally gentle and shy. They live in groups of 2-40 individuals, averaging about 11. Groups are led by a dominant male, the silverback, named for the silvery gray hairs that grow when the male matures. The Mountain Gorilla is a herbivore that eats over 100 different species of plants. They rarely need to drink since their diet is so rich in succulent herbs, from which they get their water. Mountain gorillas have longer hair and shorter arms than their lowland cousins. They also tend to be a bit larger than other gorillas. The magnet measures 2.5" x 3.5" (6.35 x 8.89cm) with a metal shell, mylar/UV protecting cover and flat magnetic back. The artwork is a reproduction of an original line art drawing by wildlife illustrator Roger Hall.
