The Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is also known as Firefish or Zebrafish. Lionfish generally associated with coral reefs, but can also found in warm, marine water of the tropics. They tend to glide along the rocks and coral during the night and hide out in caves and crevices during the day. The lionfish has a beautifully banded head and body with reddish or golden brown bands stretching across a yellow background. The dorsal and anal fins possess dark rows of spots on a clear background. The fish has spread from the Pacific ocean into the Atlantic and other oceans and is considered an invasive species.
