The Thorny Seahorse (Hippocampus histrix) can grow up to 15 cm long. It has thin, pointed, high spines at the corner of the bony plates with an elongate snout of variable colour (yellow, green, red) and is noramlly camouflaged. Often bands can be seen on the snout. It is native to the Western Pacific and can be found usually along the external reef, between 5 and 30 m depth, in areas rich in sponges and soft corals. (Source: edge-of-reef.com)
